In November 2015 Queers for Dinner was born, with the mission to create safe, welcoming, accessible space for LGBTQ+ people to connect with new friends over great food. In just two years we’ve grown in leaps and bounds, hosting over 250 people and organizing over 30 events. As our community continues to expand, we need creative, dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to join our team. If you love food, community-based activism, and spending time with a group of great people then we’d love to hear from you!
Purpose
Each month, Queers for Dinner hosts two events, one restaurant-based event as well as another fun activity. The Activities Coordinator is responsible for helping to plan the activity-based event which focusses on creating opportunities for LGBTQ+ people to connect and make new friends.
Responsibilities
- Come up with creative activity ideas
- Work with the Programming team to create a seasonal program schedule
- Oversee the planning and execution of activities and events e.g. space, supplies, etc.
- Ensure activities are safe, welcoming, and accessible to LGBTQ+ participants and our allies
- Work with the Programming team to develop outreach materials for events
- Prepare budget and track expenses
- Participate in Queers for Dinner team meetings meetings (once every 2 months)
- Assist with outreach at events like volunteer fairs (occasionally)
Required Skills and Experience
- Ability to think creatively
- Detail oriented, excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to plan and/or facilitate activities for groups
- Experience working with LGBTQ+ communities an asset
- Experience working with other marginalized communities such as people with disabilities, newcomers to Canada or racialized communities, considered an asset
Time Commitment
- Minimum six (6) months
- 5-8 hours a month (includes 1 volunteer team meeting every 2 months, plus events)
