Event Host

About
In November 2015 Queers for Dinner was born, with the mission to create safe, welcoming, accessible space for LGBTQ+ people to connect with new friends over great food. In just two years we’ve grown in leaps and bounds, hosting over 250 people and organizing over 30 events. As our community continues to expand, we need creative, dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to join our team. If you love food, community-based activism, and spending time with a group of great people then we’d love to hear from you!

Purpose
The Event Host helps out at Queers for Dinner events to welcoming people, start conversations, and keep the space safe and welcoming. So if you love working with people, chatting and making new friends this role may be perfect for you!

Responsibilities
- Attend 1-2 Queers for Dinner events each month 
- Help with event setup, if required
- Greet participants, and keep conversation flowing
- Work with the Program Coordination team and other Event Hosts to lead activities and events
- Ensure events are safe, welcoming, and accessible to LGBTQ+ participants and our allies
- Participate in Queers for Dinner Team meetings (once every 2 months)

Required Skills and Experience
- Good communication skills
- Experience working with LGBTQ+ communities
- Experience working with other marginalized communities such as people with disabilities, newcomers to Canada or racialized communities, considered an asset

Time Commitment

- Minimum three (3) months
- 2-4 hours a month (includes 1 volunteer team meeting every 2 months, plus events)
