Queers for Dinner hosts events at a local restaurants. Before these events happen, our volunteers have to find yummy restaurants and visit them to see if they'll be a good fit. So if you love reading BlogTO, or drooling over Instagram photos then this might just be the perfect volunteer assignment for you!
Purpose
Work with the Programming team to find, visit and recommend restaurants for upcoming Queers for Dinner events.
Responsibilities
- Help find yummy new restaurants for the team to check out for upcoming events
- Visit at least one restaurant a month, and gather details based on the Queers for Dinner checklist
- Talk to restaurant staff, managers or owners about Queers for Dinner and the possibility of organizing an event
- Share restaurant recommendations and reviews with the Programming team
- Before starting on your own, take part in a restaurant visit with another Queers for Dinner volunteer
- Participate in Queers for Dinner team meetings (once every 2 months)
Required Skills and Experience
- Good organizational skills
- Comfortable breaking the ice, starting conversation with new people
- Experience working with LGBTQ+ communities
- Experience working with other marginalized communities such as people with disabilities, newcomers to Canada or racialized communities, considered an asset
Time Commitment
- Minimum six (6) months
- 1-3 hours a month (includes 1 volunteer team meeting every 2 months)
Please note: Queers for Dinner can arrange for tokens to help cover the cost of travel to and from the restaurant, but volunteers will be responsible to cover their own food and drink costs.
